Starting at 10am and running through until mid-afternoon, the Opunake Beach Carnival has something for the whole family to enjoy. Food, music, entertainment, prizes, and the stunning beach venue to top it all off! The organising team is busy working on some new additions this year so check back here for updates.
THE BIG DIG
This has been a long time favourite at the carnival and it involves hundreds of children digging in the sand to find a winning popsicle stick. The Big Dig will be at 12 o'clock, on the main beach. Registrations will be taken on the day to the left side of stage.
There are three sections and everyone gets a prize! to be won. There are also some awesome major prizes!
CRAFT AND FOOD STALLS
Treat your taste buds with hot and cold delights put on by many of the local clubs and take a look at some of the works from talented Taranaki arts and crafts people.
BABY TOTS, MR MUSCLES & MISS OPUNAKE
Always a headline act at the beach carnival - the various competition categories allow for lots of people to get involved and strut their stuff on stage. If you or someone you know wants to be part of it this year, here's how to enter!
OPUNAKE COMMUNITY BATHS SOCIETY POOL PARTY
Why not get into the carnival spirit early and head along to the Pool Party at the Opunake Community Pool - Friday the 8th of January from 5-7pm at the Opunake Community Baths, $5 entry - includes free sausage sizzle! All proceeds go towards ongoing lifeguard training.
The Opunake Community Pool is located on Longfellow Road.
DISCO AT THE SURF CLUB
On Saturday night, after the Carnival, continue the festivities with a Disco at the Surf Club. The Disco runs from 6.30 - 8pm and is for primary/intermediate aged children. Entry is $2 and there will be drinks and sweets available for purchase. All proceeds supporting the Opunake Surf Lifesaving Club Oceans Juniors National team

There are quick draw raffles drawn each hour from 10am - 2pm with great prizes to be won.
